It is my personal mission is to stimulate student’s natural curiosity concerning the world around them.  I believe it is important to help my students make personal connections with history by discovering how the past relates to their own lives. My goal is to increase my student’s awareness and understanding of many different cultures which impact our own.  As a result, I believe they will be better equipped as citizens and leaders in the 21st century. I look forward to having your child in my class.

About Me

"The dream begins, most of time, with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs, pushes, and leads you on to the next plateau, sometimes poking you with a sharp stick called truth."~Dan Rather My name is Kristy James Kuehn (Ms. James) and I am originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan (GO BLUE). I went to school where I could see Canada out my window, so I thought it would be a lovely change to come down to the desert to work on my masters. I moved to Arizona in 2006 and I consider Desert Ridge Junior High my home away from home. I have been blessed with a wonderful husband and a beautiful family, my little girl Zoe and my little man Zayden. I love being able to spend quality time traveling around the world with them! I have been to 44 different countries and I look forward to discovering more each year! I love to bring these experience into my classroom and share with my kiddos about different cultures around the world. I enjoy many other activities; my favorites include, volleyball, hiking, snowboarding, kayaking and swimming. I also enjoy watching movies, reading books, and spending time with family and friends...and yes, I do miss my snow!

In 2008 I was the Teacher of the Month at DRJHS but my greatest achievement thus far is becoming a National Board Certified teacher NBCT.  Teaching Experience: I completed my student teaching in Brisbane, Australia, which provided me not only with a wonderful traveling experience, but also a great learning experience as well. After teaching abroad, I taught in Grand Rapids, Michigan for a year. During that year, I was able to work with special education students, at-risk students, and a variety of grade levels and subjects. This experience gave me the opportunity to grow and learn while also searching for the right school district to call home. I found that special school district in Gilbert, Arizona. I have been at Desert Ridge since 2006 and in those years I have taught boys and girls physical education and 8th grade social studies...RATTLERS GO THE DISTANCE! I absolutely LOVE what I do!!
